This monograph presents the subject of thermal radiative transfer in complex disperse systems using what the authors call "the engineering approach". This methodology is based on simplified theoretical models of electromagnetic energy transport and relatively simple computational and experimental procedures. The authors widely use the Lorenz-Mie theory to describe the single-scattering properties of individual particles in combination with various approximate models of radiation transfer in anisotropically scattering media. They also invoke the results of directional-hemispherical laboratory measurements of morphologically complex dispersed materials such as foams, porous ceramics, and fibrous and nanoporous insulators.
