Current agriculture depends on a few major species grown as monocultures that are supported by global research and development system underpinning current productivity with quantitative evidences whereas many hundreds of alternative crops are with fragmentary qualitative local evidences. These neglected crops have the potential to meet real world challenges by means of sustaining humanity, diversifying the agricultural systems for food and nutritional security and especially responding to climate change with more climate-resilient. Bambara groundnut (Vigna subterranea (L) Verdc), an underutilised African legume is an exemplar crop for climate resilience. The AquaCrop predicted yield performances of bambara groundnut landraces for baseline (1980-2010), downscaled 20 Global Climate Models (CMIP5-RCP8.5) in mid-century (2040-2069) and for climate sensitivities (AgMIP-C3MP) across three locations in southern Africa (Botswana, South Africa, Namibia) were analysed to synthesise decisions to queries andor choices of genotypic suitability for present and future climates. Bambara groundnut reported diverse yield performances with diverse sensitivities to climate between landraces originating from various semi-arid African locations. South Africa has the lowest yield with current climate indicating positive yield trends with climate change gaining advantages by warming. Namibia reported the highest baseline yield with optimum current temperatures indicating less yield potentials in future climate. Overall, landrace originated from hot-dry conditions in Namibia (S19) has greater yield potential for future. Bambara groundnut holds tremendous yield potential up to 31 degrees, with temperatures pushing yields down above that level. There are many regions in Southern Africa that therefore can utilize Bambara Groundnut successfully for the coming decades.
