Speaker: Tyler Cowan (NASA/GISS) Topic: Introduction to Quantum Computing Quantum computing is an emerging technology with the potential to solve computational problems currently deemed intractable with classical computers. It utilizes the quantum properties of entanglement, interference, and superposition to process information in novel ways. It has many potential applications including chemistry simulation, cryptography, and optimization. Quantum computers are not expected to replace classical computers, but rather work alongside them. So, how do quantum computers work and what is the outlook for this field? How might it affect the way we live and do research? This talk will include a live Qiskit demo (a Python SDK for interfacing with quantum computers) and use of a real quantum computer from IBM through the cloud to execute a simple quantum circuit.
