Title: "Towards a unified Aerosol Climatology: Comparing MODIS and MISR and AVHRR products" Global Aerosol Climatology Project dataset of aerosol optical thickness (AOT) and Angstrom exponent covers a period of over 25 years and has recently been expanded to include the NOAA-18 AVHRR data. The length of the dataset as well as the recent discovery of a possible downward AOT trend make it important to compare contemporaneous GACP data with the data from more advanced satellite instruments such as MODIS and MISR. In this presentation we extend our previous global and regional scale comparisons of MODIS, MISR, and GACP datasets using the most recent satellite data products. We also perform a pixel-level comparison in an effort to identify the reasons for the observed discrepancies. It is hoped that this work will improve our understanding of the strengths and limitations of aerosol remote sensing and will lead to an improved long-term aerosol climatological record.
