Project Plans
Project Plans: 2003
Today, the rate of scientific and technological progress is unprecendented. So much so, that science can be viewed as a social enterprise where research results have an important bearing on our professional and personal lives.
More than ever, the science community is generating knowledge that reveals the roles of humans and nature in an integrated earth system, one that is sensitive to small, as well as large changes. Our research is concerned with the interdisciplinary study of Planet Earth and global change. This is a theme that cuts across all ICP teams.
We ask all teams to consider the applications of their climate research results to questions about the future and current issues involving: energy, water, land, health, and the economy. The state of our understanding about earth will always be used to advocate or reject policies; by citizens, policy-makers, business leaders and the media. It makes sense then to have an education outreach program, like the ICP, where students and teachers get involved in real climate research, learn about the scientific process and gain critical skills to evaluate science.
