+ Columbia University, Department of Applied Physics and Applied Mathematics

Oceanography, Biogeochemistry, Climate Science, Climate Modeling, Statistical Methods for Climate Science, Big Data Science

Research Statement:
My research is focused on the changes and the interactions within the Climate system, particularly the Oceans. I use both models and observations to study the uptake of heat and carbon by the oceans, the changes in the circulation patterns, the effects of storms on ocean circulation and biogeochemistry, the magnitude and time variability of the physical and biogeochemical processes that control ocean’s response to anthropogenic perturbations.

Graduate students; undergraduate students

Possible Student Projects:
+ Effects of climate change on the ocean, using observations and model results
+ Acidification changes in preindustrial, current and future climates
+ Coastal and open-ocean effects of continental runoff
+ High frequency atmospheric variability and its effects on the ocean circulation and the carbon cycle
