SciSpace LLC: Scientific Programmer
We are seeking a talented and driven individual for a Scientific Programmer position to conduct ocean-climate model development and evaluation. The appointment is for a 2-year period initially, upon annual review, and possibilities of extension beyond the 2 years.
The successful candidate will use numerical models developed at NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies and help improve parameterizations pertaining to physical and/or biogeochemical processes. The goal is to improve model biases with regards to hydrographic measurements and circulation constraints and use the improved model for coupled ocean-atmosphere simulations of preindustrial, historical and future climates.
The successful candidate will work at the offices at NASA GISS, located in New York City near the Morningside Campus of Columbia University.
Successful applicants will have: a degree (masters or higher) in computer science, or oceanic or climate science or a similar field; expertise in computational physics, ocean and/or climate modeling; experience in construction and application of physical models; programming expertise using Fortran and Python; and analysis expertise using MATLAB or equivalent software. They will be highly motivated to work in a team. Strong candidates will be aware of the current status of ocean modeling, observations-model innovative comparative analysis techniques and emerging issues in ocean-climate and carbon-climate feedbacks science.
Applications will be accepted until the position is filled.
We offer competitive salaries and a comprehensive benefits package including tuition reimbursement and 401k savings plan.
