Columbia University, Postdoctoral Research Scientist in Atmospheric Radiative Interactions
The Center for Climate Systems Research in the Earth Institute of Columbia University invites applicants for a Postdoctoral Research Scientist position in global atmospheric modeling at at its Morningside campus in collaboration with the NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies (GISS) in New York City. Appointment is full-time for a one-year period, with the possibility of extension. Appointment is made annually and is contingent upon funding and performance.
The Postdoctoral Research Scientist will apply radiative transfer and climate modeling to investigate the radiative interactions and feedbacks between different atmospheric constituents and climate system. The emphasis is the coupling among clouds, sea ice and ocean in the polar climate system and the effect of ice-atmosphere feedbacks (e.g., ice albedo feedback and cloud feedback) on sea ice evolution. For this purpose, the successful applicant is expected to use satellite and in situ observations to evaluate the modeling results. The Postdoctoral Research Scientist is expected to present findings at national and/or international scientific conferences, and to prepare successful peer-reviewed publications in well-known scientific journals.
A PhD in atmospheric sciences, physics, or other related fields is required. Must have experience in radiative transfer modeling and coding skills in Fortran.
The anticipated target start date for this position is April 1, 2021
Appointment is full-time for an one-year period with the possibility of extension contingent upon performance and funding.
Search will remain open for at least 30 days from date of posting and will continue until the position is filled.
