Columbia University: Postdoctoral Research Scientist in Ocean-Climate Modeling
The Center for Climate Systems Research in the Earth Institute of Columbia University invites applicants for a Postdoctoral Research Scientist appointment to conduct ocean-climate modeling development and evaluation. This appointment is full-time and located at the Columbia University Morningside campus.
The Postdoc will use numerical models developed at NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies and help improve parameterizations pertaining to physical and/or biogeochemical processes. The goal is to improve model biases with regards to hydrographic measurements and circulation constraints and use the improved model for coupled ocean-atmosphere simulations of preindustrial, historical and future climates. The Postdoc will be expected to perform original research, present the results of the research at scientific meetings, and publish in peer-reviewed journals
Successful applicants will have a PhD. in oceanic or climate science or a similar field; expertise in computational physics, ocean and/or climate modeling; experience in construction and application of physical models; programming expertise using fortran and python and analysis expertise using matlab or equivalent software. S/he will be highly motivated to work in a team environment. Strong candidates will be aware of the current status of ocean modeling, observations-model innovative comparative analysis and emerging issues in ocean-climate and carbon-climate feedbacks science.
Minimum Qualifications: PhD. in oceanic or climate science or a similar field; expertise in computational physics, ocean and/or climate modeling; experience in construction and application of physical models; programming expertise using Fortran and python and analysis expertise using matlab or equivalent software.
Appointment will be for 1 year, with continuation pending funding and progress.
