Research Interests:

Dr. Hall is a Senior Research Scientist at NASA GISS. His primary research interest is tropical cyclones (hurricanes in the Atlantic), their relationship to climate, and the hazard they pose to coastal communities. One of the tools he uses is statistical-stochastic modeling of storm landfall. He is currently working with coastal oceanographers to estimate storm inundation hazard. Hurricane hazard is a major concern for coastal communities, planners, and policy makers, as well as the insurance industry. In addition to his scientific papers available on the GISS site, highlights of some of Hall's hurricane work have appeared on InsuranceLinked, including seasonal forecasts of hurricane landfall probabilities. Hall also conducts research in atmospheric-ocean tracer transport and the ocean carbon cycle.
