Announcements are periodically made on the GISS employment opportunities page for specific postdoctoral research opportunities, most often through Columbia University and its Center for Climate Systems Research. In addition to such positions, there may be ongoing research opportunities available through the following programs.
Administered through Oak Ridge Associated Universities, the NASA Postdoctoral Program (NPP) offers unique research opportunities to highly talented national and international individuals to engage in ongoing NASA research programs at a NASA Center, NASA Headquarters, or at a NASA-affiliated research institute. These one- to three-year Fellowship appointments are competitive and are designed to advance NASA's missions in space science, Earth science, aeronautics, space operations, exploration systems, and astrobiology. There are three deadlines per year for submitting applications: Mar. 1, July 1 and Nov. 1. See the NPP website for further information.
Research opportunities at GISS include climate, Earth observations, planetary atmospheres, and interdisciplinary research. Contact Ms. Emily Michaud for information specific to GISS.
Opportunities at Columbia University for postdoctoral research in the Earth sciences are available through the Earth Institute Fellows program. The program covers a diverse set of topics, offering opportunities at GISS and at other Columbia units and departments. Please see their website for more information.
