Columbia University: Postdoctoral Research Scientist: Climate and Atmospheric Science

The Department of Applied Physics and Applied Mathematics / Goddard Institute for Space Studies at Columbia University's School of Engineering and Applied Sciences invites applications for a postdoctoral research scientist to study cloud micro-physical processes and improve their representation in General Circulation Model (GCM) simulations. The research involves a combination of modeling using Cloud Resolving Models (CRMs) and GCMs, and data analysis using satellite, ground-based remote-sensing, and other field measurements. The successful candidate will be running model simulations and evaluating the results against observational retrievals.

Candidates are expected to have established their ability to conduct original, independent scientific research in physics, mathematics, engineering, meteorology, or a related field. They are expected to be able to work well in a team and to communicate the results of their research orally and in writing.

The applicant is required to have a Ph.D. in Applied Physics, Mathematics, Engineering, Meteorology, or a related field. Advanced scientific programming skills are essential and should include both knowledge of programming and scripting languages such as FORTRAN, Perl, and Python as well as commercial software packages such as MatLab or Interactive Data Language (IDL).
